Purpose

To record the Printers available through the job control and scheduling facility

It is expected that the data in this form will be set up and maintained by information technology staff.

The form is used to record and maintain a list of those Printers on the institution's network which should be available to the Job Control and Scheduling facility. These Printers may be chosen as a destination for reports and other printed output from jobs run within the System.

 

The Printer block contains:

  • Printer
  • Description
  • Location Code
  • Spooler
  • Spooler Option

Rules/Notes:

 

To record a Printer for use by the Job Control and Scheduling facility, using the Maintain Printers form:

In Insert mode:

  • Enter the name or code of the required network Printer in the Printer field of a blank record
  • Enter a meaningful description in the Description field
  • Select the location of the Printer from the list of values (or key in a valid value) in the Location Code field
  • Optionally, enter the spooler command and spooler option in the Spooler and Spooler Option fields
  • Save

Rules/Notes:

Only open locations are normally shown in the list of values. However, when a closed location has just been keyed in, its details are displayed in the LOV for information.

Entries in the Spooler and Spooler Option fields are used by the System when building operating commands.

To modify a Printer record using the Maintain Printers form:

  • Find the record to be modified
  • Modify the record as required
  • Save

Rules/Notes:

Description, Location Code, Spooler and Spooler Option fields can be modified.

To delete a Printer record using the Maintain Printers form:

  • Find the record to be deleted
  • Locate the cursor in the record to be deleted
  • Delete record
  • Save

Rules/Notes:

If a Printer is specified in a job, a job request or as a person's default Printer, its record cannot be deleted.

Taking a Printer temporarily off-line is handled outside the Callista System.
