SPECIAL NOTE: This file (ADV4200b) is part two of a three part series of files for ADVF4200. This file explains the screen that appears after selecting the Unit Details button. This button appears in the bottom block of ADVF4200. |
This section ONLY deals with the Unit Details button. For a full description of ADVF4200, see AD4200A. Advanced Standing Unit is accessed via the Unit Details button at the bottom of the block. There are two types of Advanced Standing recorded in the System:
Advanced Standing in a Unit recognises that a student has undertaken prior studies or has experience which has a degree of equivalence to the Unit (the Unit being part of the course requirements of the current Course Attempt). The effect of gaining Advanced Standing in a Unit can be:
The System permits recording of each of these results. Full credit and preclusion have significant impacts within the System. These are elaborated below. Partial credit is recorded here but has no subsequent impact in the System. The Rules sections, below, contain important information regarding transactions using this screen. The Notable Effects section, below, details the effects of the various attributes of an Advanced Standing Unit record. The operation of the Advanced Standing Subsystem, including the recording process and use of 'Granting Statuses' is elaborated upon in Understanding Advanced Standing. Each field is described in detail in the Subsystem Glossary. For example, a student applies for Advanced Standing in the Bachelor of Commerce. Two years earlier, the student completed Units in the first year of a computing degree but then withdrew from the course. An assessment is made of the student's application for Advanced Standing with the following results:
When defining an Advanced Standing the user can select from Granting Statuses (Granting Status) of: APPROVED ASSESSING, CANCELLED, DECLINED, GRANTED, NOT-APPRVD and REVOKED. For further insights on the different Granting Status and Dates, see below. For insights on Advanced Standing see 'Understanding Advanced Standing (ADVINTR3)'. For a glossary of terms, see 'Advanced Standing Glossary (ADVINTR2)'.. This form is accessed from the main menu. |
Note: This is only a description of what is shown when the Unit Details (Advanced Standing Unit) button is selected. See AD4200A for a full description of other aspects of ADVF4200. The Student Course Attempt Advanced Standing block contains:

Rules/Notes: For details of the Unit Level Details button - Advanced Standing Unit Level, see ADV4200C. For details of Validations see ADV4200A This form sets a global variable when a Student Unit Attempt is granted as Advanced Standing. The global variable is set to TRUE and a warning message displayed to the user saying that the Student Unit Attempts are logically deleted. The global variables are used in ENRF3000 – Record Enrolments when the user returns to the form from ADVF4200. It is used to re-query the Student Course Attempt block so that the Student Unit Attempts that are granted Advanced Standing are not displayed. For information on the Field Details of Unit blocks and tabs, see ADVF2000 Crs Grouped check box. Has no system functionality. It is used for local development reports to, for example, determine how many units of a course a student has undertaken Granting Status Depending on what Granting Status is selected, the area after the 'Created' field in the Admin Tab dynamically changes. For example, if ASSESSING was selected as a Granting Status, then the area after the 'Created' date field in the Admin Tab would have an 'Assessing' date field added. The matrix below shows what field/s are displayed, when different Granting Statuses are selected.
The Origin Course and Origin Unit records are not related (even though they are created in one form), therefore, when entering data in one, the other does not need to be populated. Advanced Standing Origins are maintained in the form, Maintain Advanced Standing Origin (ADVF1190). Note: Data from the Origin Course Code field in the Origin Course Tab or Origin Unit Code field in the Origin Unit Tab are found in one table, the Advanced Standing Origin Instance Table (ADV_STND_ORIGIN_INSTANCE). |

The Grant Advanced Standing job (ADVJ4411), amongst other things, changes the status of Advanced Standing application records from APPROVED to GRANTED when the Student Course Attempt's Status is ENROLLED only. Granting Statuses and their use are explained in detail in Understanding Advanced Standing. See also documentation for the Grant Advanced Standing (ADVJ4411) and the Expire Advanced Standing (ADVJ4412) jobs. The rules for modifying records, below, also apply to changes made to default values for a new record Changes within this form will have the following notable effects:

Advanced Standing Types (CREDIT and PRECLUSION) are explained in detail in Understanding Advanced Standing - Advanced Standing Reference Data Percentage can only be changed for records of Advanced Standing Type CREDIT and Granting Status APPROVED. A percentage less than 100 (partial credit) results in the record having no flow-on effects in the System Granting Status changes are constrained as follows:
